Me heading out in the summer of 1999 from Gardner, Colorado to ride the Rockies!Putting a new set of shoes on my mare Popcorn's Princess - The work is never done!High in the aspins on one of the rides up into the Sangre De Cristo mountains, in Southern Colorado.

Howdy!

I have placed this site on the net to provide you, my prospective employer, with information about my past experience, so that you will be able to determine if I am suited for the position for which I am applying.  I feel that I can better show my stuff through photos and text on the net, than I ever could can in a plain old resume.

Mailing out applications for jobs is something that is necessary in many cases, and yet a little old fashioned, since this age of communications allows people, like myself, to to put the stuff out there for all to see, and better present their case.  It is my hope that this site will inform you as to my qualifications, and you will contact me in regards to any position you may have available.

Of course, you will want to read more about me in these pages, but I want to put up front the positions I will accept.  If you don't have any place for me at this time I understand and appreciate you coming to visit anyway.

Positions for which I am qualified:

  • Lead Wrangler - I have a lot of experience working with people who are out to enjoy themselves on the trails.  I have worked seasonally for ranches in Colorado where guests are taken on trail rides ranging from the ride around the pasture at a walk, to the more extreme high country trail ride and loping cross country rides.  I also managed a fledgling operation near Zion National Park for a summer back in 1996 with a string of 10 horses, 20 buffalo and rode herd on 135 head of Coriente cattle.  The owner lacked the funds to keep the operation going, so it only lasted one season, but while it lasted it was great!  I also took guests on wagon rides on the 600 acre buffalo pasture visiting many Anasasi Indian sites.  I do enjoy having that captive audience where I can use my wits, humor and wisdom to give them a lifetime remembrance.

  • Barn Manager - I have managed barns in the past. Well, actually I managed the entire ranch. I have supervised breeding (horses and cattle), branding and a host of other duties, generally under the most primitive conditions (no running water or electricity).  I am a very organized and knowledgeable (schooled through experience) horse and mule trainer/handler. I place high emphasis on neatness and care.  I am a self taught farrier with experience shooing both horses and mules, the easy way and the hard.  I prefer the easy.

  • Ranch Manager - I have experience in all kinds of management.  My military background in leadership has helped me to hone my managerial skills in civilian life.  Though I have really little experience working with bovine, I do believe I have enough experience with bovine to manage others under me who do have the specific knowledge needed to run a cow/calf operation.

  • Trainer - Working with horses and mules has become my life's work to some degree, and I have attended several of the well known trainer's seminars on the subject, and developed a gentle approach of my own which is very effective, and I call the "3P's and a C" (Patience, Perseverance, Persistence and Consistency).  Having lived and worked with my own animals for over 13 years (on a nearly 24 hour a day basis), I have learned more than many who have gone to school.  While in Nevada I had a small business training all types and breeds of horses and mules.  From weanlings to older horses with bad habits, I dealt with them all successfully.  My training has come from the school of hard knocks and from the many willing teachers I have been fortunate enough to meet in my travels as well as hours of personal observation of the gestures of a hose and their meanings.  I have trained many horses and mules to drive and pack.  I have even designed and built my own wagon and harness, and proved it under rigorous testing to be more than adequate.

  • Instructor - My military training dealt with the teaching of many different things.  I have taught everything from how to blow something up, to how to get along with different people of different races, religions and ethnic groups.  I enjoy passing on my knowledge, and giving hands on instruction to folks who have never sat a saddle, or helping advanced riders learn some different techniques.  My background in human relations has proven a valuable asset when working with the public.  I do love working with the public too!  In my younger years I worked as an assistant pre-school teacher while in college studying elementary education, so I am pretty good with children - raised 2 daughters of my own too.

I feel as comfortable in front of the keyboard as I do on the back of a horse, and I believe that I would be a great asset to any guest ranch that is looking for the ALL-AROUND hand.  I can rough it with the roughest, or have an intelligent conversation with the high tech guest who wants to unload that office problem on to someone who cares and understands.

I certainly hope that you have taken the time to read this far, and are now considering me for hire.  Please, if you have any further questions don't hesitate to send me an email and ask.  Rest assured that I will reply with an honest and sincere answer.

That about does it for my opening page.  Please select any of the links to my other pages and learn more about this guy who is looking to hang his hat and ride for the brand.
